Ask · the AI assistant

Ask anything about your money. Plain questions. Straight answers. And when you want, it can act. But you approve every move.

What you can ask

Ask is a chat assistant that answers questions about your money in plain language. No formulas, no menus. Just type what you want to know.

Try things like "How much did I spend on dining last month?", "What are my biggest merchants?", or "How can I cut down next month?" It reads your real numbers and answers in plain words.

It can act, but you approve

Ask doesn't just answer. It can draft a transaction or propose a budget change for you.

When it does, it shows you a proposal card, say, a new dining limit or a transaction to add. Nothing changes until you tap to confirm.

Key

You're always in control. Ask only proposes. Every action waits for your approval before anything in your data changes.

Which AI answers

The model behind Ask depends on the mode you're in.

iCloud mode

Ask runs on Apple Intelligence, on-device or through Apple's Private Cloud Compute. This is the default, and it's private. Your data doesn't reach our servers.

OpenTeller account (Pro+)

You can choose GPT-5.4 mini for stronger answers. Your messages and the financial data needed to answer go through our server to OpenAI. Per OpenAI's API policy, it isn't used to train their models. See Privacy & your data for the full picture.

What it can see

To answer, the assistant uses tools that read your own data back through the app: your transactions, budgets, and recurring items.

It only ever sees your data. Never anyone else's.

Examples to try

Want to drive your finances from outside the app with Claude or another AI tool? See MCP & API.
